Recognizing the important people in our lives is what the holiday season is all about.
That’s why Brazos Valley Cares is once again getting together with Texas A&M and Blinn College to recognize student veterans in a special way this Christmas.
What is Maroon Santa?
Maroon Santa is a charity effort put on by Texas A&M College Republicans, Texas Aggie Democrats, Aggie Libertarians, Young Americans For Freedom, and Brazos Valley Cares and promises to bring the spirit of the season to the children of enrolled veterans for the third year since the program was started in 2017.
During that first year, the charity gave Christmas gifts to 50 children of TAMU and Blinn veterans and that number increased to 75 gifts last year.
This year, Maroon Santa is hoping to collect enough donations to give Christmas presents to even more children.
Having come about as a charity fundraising idea that included various on-campus politically involved groups, Maroon Santa is collecting donations to purchase gifts that will be specifically chosen from suggestion lists submitted by student veteran parents so that each child receiving a gift gets something from Santa they really want.
How Are Gifts Distributed?
The gifts will be given during a 1-day celebration on December 8th and hosted by TAMU and Blinn students that will include refreshments and crafts for children and their parents.
The festivities will culminate with a visit from Santa himself when the gifts that have been wrapped and tagged by student volunteers will be handed out.
Brazos Valley Cares is proud to be a part of this cross-partisan Christmas event to show our Aggie veterans how much we care and want to help student veteran families with children.
Everyone Can Donate and Help!
Monetary donations for buying Christmas gifts are currently being accepted and will be through December 31st.
Help make Christmas merrier for the child of a student veteran and support Maroon Santa 2019!
