2019 Grants to Date

In 2019, we have bestowed 5 grants totaling $65,000 to the organizations as noted below:

  1. Aggie Shields – $10,000 – Student organization that is dedicated to helping more than 1,200 veterans who are students at Texas A&M.  This organization has saved student veterans hundreds of thousands of dollars in book rental/purchase fees and has become the template for universities across the nation to follow.

  2. American Legion – $20,000 – The Earl Grant Post 159 of the national American Legion organization.  The American Legion is going to leverage the generosity of the Brazos Valley Cares donors by providing critical services to veterans and their families through their Veterans Crisis Assistance Program, Veterans Resource Fair, and Military Family Support Program.

  3. Veterans Resource & Support Center – $10,000 – Personalized support through Texas A&M for all student veterans who are attending Texas A&M. This amazing organization helps veteran students achieve academic excellence by supporting them as they transition out of the military to academic life, while they are a student at Texas A&M University, and through graduation and job placement.

  4. Voices For Children – $10,000 given and $10,000 pending to be given – $20,000 Total – Volunteers appointed by a judge to represent and advocate for children who have been placed in the child protection system. They are called a CASA or Court Appointed Special Advocate. This is the first year that Brazos Valley Cares has partnered with Voices for Children. This grant will be designated to support children of military veterans. Voices for Children and their volunteers have an amazing reputation for making difficult situations better.

  5. Wreaths Across America – $5,000 – Volunteer organization that lays wreaths on the graves of veterans at various locations across the country the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of December. Their mission is to “Remember. Honor. Teach.” Locally, this event will be held December 14, 2019 at area cemeteries in 7 counties surrounding the Brazos Valley.
